Security Alert – Text Message Scam: Don’t Share Verification Codes

Some students have received fraudulent texts claiming to be from the “IT Department/Service Desk.” These messages may ask you to share a Microsoft verification code to “cancel an email shutdown.”

This is a scam. IT will never ask for verification codes by text, phone, or email. Sharing a code can give attackers access to your account.

What to do:

  • Do not reply to these messages.
  • Do not share any verification codes.
  • Forward suspicious messages to techsupport@westshore.edu.

If you already shared a code, change your password immediately and contact the Technical Support Team at techsupport@westshore.edu or  231.843.5570.

Stay vigilant and protect your account!
